On Site Effluent Treatment Systems (OSET)

Domestic Wastewater Disposal

Within the Bay of Plenty Regional Council area where no reticulated sewer is available you will need to provide an on-site system which has been designed and constructed in accordance with the On-site Effluent Treatment Regional Plan (OSET Plan). The purpose of the OSET Plan is to ensure that wastewater is discharged safely and that the effects are managed.

Every On-site Effluent Treatment System must be designed by a Suitably Qualified and Experienced Person (SQEP). To become a SQEP you must attend an approved training course. The Bay of Plenty Regional Council have developed a Training Course for System Designers.

John Hesseling from Overington Surveyors has completed this course.

Overington Surveyors is able to undertake a Site and Soil Evaluation and design a system in accordance with the requirements of the OSET Plan and AS/NZS 1547:2012 – On-Site Domestic Wastewater Management.

We will design a standard septic tank and disposal trench system if site conditions and council rules allow. Our design will ensure that your wastewater disposal system has no significant adverse effects on the receiving environment or on adjacent properties and that any risk is managed appropriately.
